CHARTER

To maintain and develop a professional Australian visual artists copyright collecting agency with international affiliations that protect and enhance the legal and financial rights of Australian and International visual artists.

VISCOPY is the copyright collecting society for visual artists in Australia and New Zealand. VISCOPY was established in 1995 by a Federal Government grant following lobbying by the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) and recommendations from the Simpson Report.

VISCOPY is the copyright collecting agency for 250,000 national and international visual artists in Australia and New Zealand and is the main point of contact for those wishing to gain copyright clearance for the reproduction of artistic works in this region.

VISCOPY actively campaigns on behalf of all visual creators and owners of copyright in artistic works on copyright, moral rights and related rights.


CONSTITUTION

Viscopy’s Constitution is currently being revised, with regard to a private ruling concerning the amendments to the Taxation Act for collecting societies. Viscopy will send details of the proposed changes to Members prior to the November AGM. A copy of the constitution can be downloaded here, or one will be sent upon request.


VISCOPY'S ROLE

To protect artists' intellectual property and related contractual rights.

VISCOPY negotiates related intellectual property transactions between the artist and the user for reproductions of artistic work in advertising, publications, newspapers and electronic media such as television, cinema, internet and CDROM. VISCOPY handles associated contracts, negotiations, legal requirements and distribution of royalties. Currently, VISCOPY represents over 3000 Australian artists, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and estates.

CODE OF CONDUCT

VISCOPY subscribes to a code of conduct for copyright collecting societies. The code came into effect in January 2002. A copy of the code can be downloaded here, or one will be sent upon request.


PRIVACY POLICY

VISCOPY takes privacy issues and the privacy of our membership very seriously. Our privacy policy was last revised in 2003. A copy of the policy can be downloaded here, or one will be sent upon request.
